From August 17 to 19, 2018, the high-end dialog “Eliminate Poverty, the Sustainable Development of Man and Nature” was held in Yinchuan, Ningxia. This high-end dialog was co-sponsored by Yan Bao Charity Foundation and China Global Philanthropy Institute and was strongly supported by Ningxia Baofeng Group, East-West Philanthropy Forum and China Philanthropy Research Institute of Beijing Normal University.
Lei Yongsheng, Director General of our Foundation accepted the invitation and gathered at Ningxia in Western China together with Xie Zhenhua, China's Special Representative on Climate Change, Zhang Wenkang, former Minister of the Ministry of Health of China, Dai Wende, Deputy Country Director UNDP China, Lu Shiwei, Chairman of the Board of Directors of “Only Health Society” and former Secretary of Health of the United States, Soichiro Fukutake, Director General of Fukutake Consortium (legal person of public welfare consortium) and former Chairman and CEO of Benesse Corporation, Dietmar Grimm, President of Paulson Institute, Wang Zhenyao, President of China Global Philanthropy Institute and China Philanthropy Research Institute of Beijing Normal University and Secretary-General of East-West Philanthropy Forum, Dang Yanbao, Director General of Yan Bao Charity Foundation, and over 100 domestic and foreign guests from different fields including the political circle, the business circle, philanthropy and educational circle.
In the “joint action” round table discussion link presided over by Wang Zhenyao, President of China Global Philanthropy Institute and China Philanthropy Research Institute of Beijing Normal University and Secretary-General of East-West Philanthropy Forum, Lei Yongsheng, Director-General of our Foundation, Dang Yanbao, Director General of Yan Bao Charity Foundation, Dietmar Grimm, President of Paulson Institute, Geng Ming, Deputy Director of Policy, Advocacy and Government Relations at Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, Dai Bo, Director of Kissinger Institute on China and the United States, Dong Fangjun, President of Dongfang Jun Charity Foundation, and PJ & Marvin Marshall, Co-founder of the Restore the Earth Foundation, conducted in-depth discussion on main topics including “climate change, educational poverty alleviation, philanthropy and provide for the aged”.
The poverty-stricken areas in the South of Ningxia were once rated by UNESCO as “the place most unsuitable for living”. Today, under the influence of the idea of sustainable development and the action of targeted poverty alleviation policy, the areas are coming to life. This forum chose Ningxia as the site and various parties jointly discussed the sustainable development of Western China in environment, medical treatment, health, provision for the aged and education, as well as the new challenges and new paths for eliminating extreme poverty, and explored the exemplary model of targeted poverty alleviation in China.
