Poverty alleviation and disaster relief are important philanthropic fields of our Foundation. The launch of treatment program for poverty-stricken cataract patients can be traced back to 2013 when our Foundation, Red Cross Society and Chao Ju Ophthalmology Hospital launched Lao Niu Treatment Program for Poverty-stricken Cataract Patients, namely “Able to See” Program (the first session).

From 2015 to 2017, our Foundation conducted “Brightness Action” Social Public Welfare Activity for the Whole Region in cooperation with China Society for Promotion of the Guangcai Program and Red Cross Society, which was an extension of Lao Niu “Able to See” Program. The program has cumulatively screen patients with eye diseases for nearly 360,000 person times and successively performed sight regaining surgery for 15,840 poverty-stricken cataract patients with 100% success rate. The program has successively won Collective Special Award of the 6th “Inner Mongolia’s Inspirational Role Models”, “The Only Special Award” in Asia by the Asian Foundation for the Prevention of Blindness, and the 10th “China Charity Award”.

The Foundation donated another 5 Million Yuan for the launch of this program. In the next three years, the program will perform 10000 free sight regaining surgeries for cataract patients from poverty-stricken families in the whole region, conduct vision screening and establish files for 1 Million adolescents at the age of 3-18 in poverty-stricken banner counties, get the right glasses for 5000 adolescents and children with true myopia from poverty-stricken families for free, and implement free correction surgeries for 1000 adolescents and children with strabismus from poverty-stricken families.
